Why the Blair Witch Project is a low budget film:

The Blair Witch Project is a low budget film because there aren’t many cast members and they weren’t paid much to “act”. The 3 main actors characters were named after them and some of the casts characters didn't even have names, they were simply called “Fisherman with glasses” and “Man in Yellow Hat” etc. When they were making the film, their budget was estimated to be around $60,000 and in their opening weekend they received around $1,000,000 (USA) (16 July 1999) and the gross total they earned was around $140,000,000 (USA) (5 November 1999). They saved lots of money because they used hand-held cameras and they filmed outside most of them time so that means they didn't need to pay for rent and lights because they were able to use the natural lighting. The filming only took 8 days as majority of the filming was done in the same place with some scenes being off to the distance of the main filming area. There was no set script for this as they planned the actors to improvise as they please, which means they didn't need to pay anyone to proofread the script.

Make Music Not War is about the war and violence that is going on in Ukraine.

I really like this video because there is a brass band playing and it is so amazing compared to the footage that is going on behind it. The actual video starts off slow and happy and the music is slow and happy and then when you begin to see the band, the music picks up and then you begin to see the destruction that has come from the bombs and the music becomes loud and amazing. Then when you see the footage of the kids running, the music begins to slow and then you hear the explosion and you feel so emotional.

The shots are mainly photographs and some videos and make you think about what is happening in other countries. 

Depict - Hand Maid

Hand Maid - Karim Souissi, Robin Wijnhold and Reda Zniber

Hand Maid is about a day in the life of a Moroccan maid, through her hands.

I like this video because it shows the struggle a girl can go through in just one day, it makes you wonder about what actually happens through closed doors and although there isn’t much dialogue you can see that she struggles with not only the men of her town but with doing simple things. This video is very emotional because it makes you think about the things in life that you take for granted.

The fact that you see everything she does through her hands makes you think about what she must go through every day of her life.

The shots are all close-up shots as you can only really see her hands and not much else. The music is emotional, which adds to the feeling of seeing her struggle.

Depict Research - The Frozen People

The Frozen People - Andrew John Sowerby

The Frozen People is about people in stuck in photographs after a piece of your soul is placed into them.

I really like this video because, as an aspiring photographer, it makes you wonder about what actually happens when you take a photograph. The narration and music behind the clips make the video look and sound beautiful because it all fits into each other and what is being said isn’t drawing your attention away from the photographs/clips, it is drawing you in.

The way the photographs/clips flicker makes you wonder if they are going to come to life and when they do it makes you wonder about pressing play in life and capturing the moments.

Most of the shots are mid-shots and they are all in black and white because they all look like they are from many years ago.

Induction - Evaluation

BTEC Media Induction Piece I like how this video piece turned out because it holds tension and the clips flow really well. If I was to redo this assignment, I would change how you can see the phones as you can’t read the writing very well and on one of the clips you can see a random person sat there when she should be sat alone. On one of the phone shots, it zooms in and out a lot which seems a bit jolty and doesn’t look very good. I like how you see three different people’s feet one after the other because it adds suspense and makes you wonder who is actually involved and it makes you question what it is actually going on. I like how you can see the bag going into the locker because you can’t actually see what is in the bag and it makes you wonder what is going to happen next. The costume change between the person getting the bag out of the locker and her walking along the field was un-intentional but it works out really well because it makes you think she changed her clothes in an attempt to hide herself even more, when in actual fact we just forgot to shoot that scene and had to do it on another day. I like how the light changes from dark to bright when she enters the forest because you can’t see very well when she first walks in and when it turns around you can see exactly what she is looking at. I like how it the shots chop and change when she is getting attacked because it adds more suspense and the music fit is perfectly with this change in atmosphere. At the point when the gun is pointed at the other girl, it changes angles, first it was on the side and then it moved to how you would normally hold a gun. I would defiantly change this if I was going to redo this piece. I like how it changes to black when she gets shot because you wonder what’s gone on and the fact that the music stops and then begins again when we see her lying there adds more surprise to the fact that she is dead. I like how we never really figure out what is in the bag apart from the gun because it lets your imagination go wild and adds more doubt to what has actually just happened.
